Hey do you know any writing blog that focuses specifically on writing children’s books?
Yeah, there’s not a lot out there. It depends, too, what kind of children’s books you’re interested in writing. I’m mostly into picturebooks, so I’ll point you to a few of my favorite blogs about writing picturebooks:
Picture Book Den has some of the best posts I’ve seen about writing for children. They’re a collection of picturebook authors from the UK and Ireland and they know their stuff.
Susanna Hill has some good posts about writing sometimes. But what’s great about her blog is she often holds writing contests with a top prize of showing your picturebook manuscript to an editor. She’s also built a vibrant writing community that will read your work closely and give you lots of positive feedback.
Inkygirl has some helpful interviews with authors and agents in the industry, in addition to other insightful posts about writing.
This last link isn’t a writing blog, but if you’re interested in writing for children, it helps to study and understand children’s literature, which has an extensive, unique history:
Nine Kinds of Pie has some of the best writing about children’s literature I’ve come across. There’s a lot to discover here.
Finally, I would also suggest reading anything and everything you can by Maurice Sendak, especially his interviews. That’s worth an entire course in writing children’s books right there.
Hope that helps.
